Extend Your Stay
So you’re coming to Nelson and you are wondering what to see and do while you are here.
Whether you’re looking to spend time out on the blue waters of Tasman Bay, walking through the picturesque Abel Tasman National Park or visiting beaches, the many wineries, crafts and artists in the area you can experience this wonderland however you wish to.
There is much to see and do!
Consider extending your stay by a day or two. Idesia B&B is an ideal base to cover the Nelson Tasman region. Most attractions are within 60 minutes drive.
Visit the Abel Tasman National Park, and on the way enjoy the vistas from the Coastal Highway, pass through the township of Motueka, and onto Kaiteriteri. At Kaiteriteri board a launch and cruise to a beautiful beach of golden sand. You can then walk part of the well-formed Abel Tasman track shaded by native forest. Or you can spend time lazing in the sun, and swimming. Later in the day you will rejoin the launch and return to Kaiteriteri. Travelling back to Richmond you pass nearby Mapua. This village is worth a visit! On the historic wharf is an aquarium, galleries and two restaurants overlooking the water, both serve evening meals.
You can spend a whole day without travelling far from Richmond. First visit Alchemy Arts where you can make a souvenir pot on the potter’s wheel or decorate a pre made plate. If you prefer, take a guided tour at Hoglund Art Glass, which features a glassblowing studio and gallery. Did you know that there are 22 small wineries in the Nelson/Tasman district? Some of these vineyards are close to Richmond and offer wine tasting. Several have cafes where you can enjoy lunch with a glass of wine outdoors in summer. Afterwards visit WOW the World of WearableArt and Classic Cars Museum. Nelson city is just a 20 minute drive. Explore the history and heritage of Nelson and visit the Provincial Museum, Christ Church Cathedral, Founders Park and walk the Heritage Trail.
Richmond has a very good shopping mall, free parking and many restaurants all within 1 ½ kms from Idesia B&B. And within walking distance there is a boutique brewery outlet Sprig & Fern Tavern.
